"I first thought about Pilates when Maria advertised for the first session of classes back in 2008. I looked at the dates and my first instinct was to delay starting as I could not make some of the dates, then I decided to start anyway as I was always going to have some dates that I could not make and boy am I glad I followed my instinct.

Well here we are nearly two years on and not only have I changed my body shape through Pilates, but I also took up running and made some new friends. Again it was Maria who prompted me to think about doing some aerobic exercise as well as Pilates, if I really wanted to make a difference in the way I looked and felt about my body. So I tried to start doing some running, but I know from previous attempts that this was going to be hard. So I asked if any of my Pilates class would like to have a go with me. Siobhan came to the rescue and we started to do a "couch potato to 5km" programme.

We started to do the programme that involved running and walking to improve our fitness and gradually got us to running 20 mins non stop, this took several weeks, and some perseverance to work through holidays pulled muscles etc. Now we are running regularly at least twice a week and doing Pilates and Maria's new class on a Monday night.

We are planning to run in the Crowle 10km race, in May which will be great.  This week I ran 10km for the first time, it was hard and took some support from Sarah and Andrea who I was running with, but I did it and I have a real sense of achievement. Sadly Siobhan was ill that day, but we will run it together soon.

If you had asked me a year ago if I would be running  a couple of times a week and enjoying it, even missing it when I can't because of the snow...... I would have said no way, but it is true. If I can do this at 46 years of age, then anyone can. I feel happier about my weight and body shape than I have ever done in my life. I have also realised over the last year how important it is for me to feel that I am fit and healthy. And it all started with Maria's Pilates classes
